Hexarelin promotes the survival of retinal ganglion cells after optic nerve transection2026
Chow KBS
Indian journal of pharmacology
In a hamster model of optic nerve transection, hexarelin (a GHSR-1a agonist) was administered and increased retinal ganglion cell survival, measured by Tuj1 immunostaining, in a dose-dependent manner, with twice-daily administration producing a larger effect than once-daily administration, consistent with an anti-apoptotic mechanism.
Pharmacological targeting of the hyper-inflammatory response to SARS-CoV-2-infected K18-hACE2 mice using a cluster of differentiation 36 receptor modulator2024
Gauvin J, Huynh DN, Dubuc I, Lê C, Tugores R, Flamand N, et al.
Frontiers in pharmacology
In a K18-hACE2 mouse model of SARS-CoV-2 infection, hexarelin was studied as a synthetic ligand for the scavenger receptor CD36 on alveolar macrophages, with researchers examining CD36-mediated modulation of the inflammatory cytokine response associated with pulmonary hyper-inflammation.
Hexarelin alleviates apoptosis on ischemic acute kidney injury via MDM2/p53 pathway2023
Guan C, Li C, Shen X, Yang C, Liu Z, Zhang N, et al.
European journal of medical research
In a rat model of ischemia-reperfusion-induced acute kidney injury and in hypoxia/reoxygenation-exposed HK-2 renal tubular cells, hexarelin reduced apoptosis and altered expression of Caspase-3, Bax, Bad, and Bcl-2; molecular docking indicated this anti-apoptotic activity may involve interaction with the MDM2/p53 pathway.
Protective Effects of Hexarelin and JMV2894 in a Human Neuroblastoma Cell Line Expressing the SOD1-G93A Mutated Protein2023
Meanti R, Licata M, Rizzi L, Bresciani E, Molteni L, Coco S, et al.
International journal of molecular sciences
In human SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells expressing the ALS-linked SOD1-G93A mutation, hexarelin protected against hydrogen-peroxide-induced oxidative stress and cytotoxicity by modulating apoptosis-regulating and cell-survival pathways.
Mechanism of action of Hexarelin. I. Growth hormone-releasing activity in the rat1996
Torsello A, Grilli R, Luoni M, Guidi M, Ghigo MC, Wehrenberg WB, et al.
European journal of endocrinology
In infant and adult rats, including animals with surgical hypothalamic ablation, this foundational pharmacology study characterized hexarelin's growth-hormone-releasing activity relative to growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), proposing direct pituitary, GHRH-release-dependent, and hypothalamic-factor-dependent mechanisms underlying its action on GH secretion.
